Dr. Mitchell is a 2018 graduate of Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she focused on food animal medicine, with an emphasis on dairy cattle production.

Mitchell Veterinary Service was founded by Michelle L. Mitchell, DVM in April of 2022 to provide unique veterinary care and support services to the local farming and rural community. The goal of the practice is rooted in providing quality veterinary service to animals in an environment where the client patient relationship can flourish. Creating long lasting relationships providing veterinary care to animals is the philosophy of the practice.

Dr. Mitchell was born and raised on a dairy farm in Saratoga County, NY. Her farming roots helped shape her passion for farm animal medicine, from a young age having calf responsibilities in the barn started her curiosity for animals. Growing up she spent her summers showing cattle and helping with the day-to-day farm work.

Dr. Mitchell got her bachelor’s degree in 2010 from Cornell University in Animal Science. Post-graduation she spent four years doing herdsman work for a commercial dairy and a dairy that was focused on high end registered genomic cattle. She also spent a couple of years working for a feed additive company, providing on farm Spanish labor training and support to the dairy farmers in the northeast. Post-graduation from veterinary school she was a herd veterinarian for a large corporate dairy farm in the Midwest where she focused on dairy production medicine. Troubleshooting large scale production metrics were the focus of the position which encompassed several dairy sites in multiple states.

Returning to the northeast lead Dr. Mitchell into the dairy nutrition realm of dairy production medicine. Nutrition is at the forefront of animal medicine in all species. A career in dairy nutrition helps use consulting skills to prevent most health-related issues through proper nutrition and husbandry practices. This approach provides a well-rounded philosophy to providing professional services to the farming community.

In home or mobile small animal medicine preventative services are offered to clients as a routine part of our practice. In home care allows animals to avoid the stress of travel and new environments. Care in home or at the farm allows for a more personalized veterinary experience.
